Querencia Guide to Being a ‘Newbie.’
Starting a new job can be a hugely nerve-wracking experience, however first day nerves can have a negative impact on a person’s performance and create a less than ideal first impression. Querencia has offered their guide to help ‘newbies’ excel on their first day.
Starting a new job can be stressful. Meeting new people, figuring out what it is that has to be done, getting used to a new office space and environment, all while proving that they made the right hiring decision. Sales and marketing firm, Querencia understand that in their industry, especially, the hands on, proactive approach to work can take new people a while to get used to.
Querencia is set to grow fast, and as such is currently looking for bright, motivated and talented people to join their Millennial workforce. The firm believes that it is important to make new people feel at home right from the off and go out of their way to help newbies settle in. Querencia offers a shadowing day beforehand where they get paired with an experienced contractor, on their first day they attend a morning meeting when they find out some necessary information in a fun environment, plus they get to spend some time with the company’s Managing Director, who has an open-door policy.
Querencia pride themselves on having an inclusive working environment and as such outlines their three tips of making a great impression on the first day.
Wake up early and be on time! A person’s first day at work is not an appropriate time to be up and out of the house in 15 minutes. It is important to be dressed appropriately to the working environment and to leave the house in plenty of time in case of delays. Aim to arrive 15 minutes early.
Get to know people and vice versa! Smile and introduce yourself and be sure to find out about other people’s roles in the company. Get to know other people during lunch and be sure to demonstrate a friendly and approachable nature.
Plan for the following day before leaving! Linger a little longer to take note of what has been learned, (people’s names!) and also any questions that might need to be asked the next day.
